The planning unit is currently headed and managed by Mr. Anthony H. Turkson (MPhil Educational Planning- IEPA). He reports directly to the Rector.

The main function of the unit is to collect, record, analyse and interpret data on students, staff and physical facilities for internal and external use. It internal users of data worked on by the unit comprises of staff, Management and the Polytechnic Council. External users are mainly the Ministry of Education (MOE), National Council for Tertiary Education (NCTE), National Board for Professional and Technical Examination (NABPTEX) and Government.

In view of the close relationship between the functions of the Planning Department and Management of Quality Assurance System, the department undertakes the following additional functions:

• Organise End-of-Semester Students Appraisal of teaching staff
• Tracer studies
